They justified by saying CEO's of major competitors were being paid that much, so they should as well. Just you know...because.

If you google a bit you can read that the new CEO has only been there a year or two. If they'd have put such a higher sum of money in the market in the first place, wouldn't they have been able to get a much more qualified person in the first place?
Just don't understand how this kind of stuff works. I'm a 99%er i guess...
