If you go to a club or party with 5 guys, the promoter will hate your guts. But if you go with 5 women, the promoter will let you cut the line, let you in for free, buy you free drinks, and keep you on the a-list.
Whether it's business or social life, networking is the name of the game.
Plenty of clubs have expensive table service, filled with millionaire business people, doctors, lawyers, actors, celebrities, politicians, and influential people.
One of my friends is a partner at a venture capital firm, and he spends over $100,000/yr on table service.
Last weekend, I met a 25 yr old girl, Harvard grad, who is good friends with the founder of facebook. She's going to be a great business contact. Plus, she had some cute 25 yr old female friends. More networking.
But go ahead and stay in your basement if you want.
No, it has nothing to do with corporate entertaining. That's his own social life.
On a typical Saturday night, he'll pull up to a club in his Ferrari, and drop $1000 on table service. That will include a few bottles and some food, which he shares with friends and loads of random women who flock to him.
But $100,000/yr on table service is nothing, when you consider he's not married, and he makes over a million a year.

Makes $1M/year = takes home $450,000/year in NYC. Subtract the cost of his pad, and the $100,000 looks like he's just pissing his money away.
Of course, this is all a troll, and you don't have a friend who makes millions and spends like this.
If he's going to troll like this, he should at least say that HE is the one making millions and spending hundreds of thousands. I guess he thinks if he pretends it's his friend, then maybe we'll believe him.
Back in the day I knew guys who could concievebly blow this much cash on nightlife, but it always came back to blow, not food and drink. If you are knocking back a couple bags worth of blow a night along with a pricey bartab it gets expensive.
Networking. They can introduce you to more women, invite you to more parties, and serve as wing girls. If you show up to a party with women, all the other women at that party will become more interested in you. They realize that you're clearly not a psycho rapist, since women hang out with you. Plus, there's a jealousy competition thing among women. That's how women are.
I don't do any of that with women. Then again, I don't play video games. And if I watch a sports event, I'll get on skype/IM, and chat with some of my married guy friends who live around the country.
With women, I mainly go to bars/clubs/parties. Like a female friend will invite me to a fashion week after party. Or to a backyard barbecue. Or a house warming party. Or a fashion design chick will invite me to her company's corporate party, where it's 90% women.
Or it's something more casual. Like last week, I suddenly decided to go see the 3D movie Avatar. So I invited some female friends, who brought other female friends along. I'd rather go see a movie with chicks than with dudes.
He makes well over $1 million/yr. He's a partner at a major VC firm. Some years it might be $1.5 million, some years it might be $3.3 million. It varies.
He already has a net worth close to $10 million, and it keeps growing. So the $100,000/yr spent on table service is nothing.
